What is Googlebook OS?
Googlebook OS is an Android-based desktop operating system built with foundations from ChromeOS. During development it was known by the codename ‘Aluminium OS’. Google described the goal as combining ChromeOS and Android into a single platform. Because it is built on Android, Googlebooks can run Android apps from the Play Store, with a curated section highlighting apps optimised for large screens. Android Authority reports that desktop-optimised apps at launch include Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, CapCut, Netflix and HBO Max.

Key Gemini AI features
Google’s official blog lists several AI features built into Googlebook:
- Magic Pointer: wiggle your cursor to bring Gemini into whatever you are doing, such as scheduling in Google Calendar, checking emails for spam or combining images.
- Rambler: voice dictation that cleans up your speech, organises action items and lets you switch languages mid-sentence, useful for people who mix Hindi and English.
- Create My Widget: build custom widgets by describing them, with no coding.
- Gemini Spark: keeps working on complex requests even when the laptop lid is closed.
- Gemini features from Chrome and Android, including task automations, Gemini Live and proactive suggestions.
For developers
Every Googlebook includes Google Antigravity for writing and deploying apps, and developers get a full Linux terminal. Google says it can run command-line tools such as Claude Code or Antigravity CLI.

XDA Developers has reported that Google warned some Android apps may not run well on Intel-based Googlebooks at launch, so check your must-have apps before buying.
What is included
Google says every Googlebook comes with 12 months of Google AI Pro (including 5 TB of cloud storage and higher Gemini limits), three months of YouTube Premium and Adobe Photoshop, and OS feature drops and updates for up to 10 years.
Is Googlebook coming to India?
Not officially yet. Google’s launch announcement names only the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia. Cashify notes that Google’s India Store does not list Googlebook and that any Indian prices circulating online are estimates, not official figures. We have therefore not published an Indian price. When partner brands such as Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo announce Indian models, expect pricing to reflect import duties and GST, not just a currency conversion.
Should you wait or buy something else now?
- Students: Googlebook targets the premium segment. If you need a laptop now, a mid-range Windows laptop or Chromebook will be more affordable.
- Freelancers and creators: Wait for Indian reviews to see how well your tools (video editors, design apps, browser extensions) run.
- Small businesses: If your team is on Windows 10, enroll in free security updates first; see our guide on Windows 10 ESU until 2027. That gives you time to compare Googlebook, Windows 11 and Mac options.
- Chromebook owners: Your device does not stop working. Check its Auto Update Expiration date in Settings > About ChromeOS to plan an upgrade.
Why Googlebook matters
Googlebook signals that Google sees Android, not ChromeOS, as the base for its future computers, and that AI features like Gemini are now a core selling point for laptops. Google’s senior director Alexander Kuscher said Googlebooks would sit at the more premium end of the laptop market, putting them up against MacBooks and Copilot+ Windows PCs. For India, a large Android user base means a familiar app ecosystem, but price will decide adoption.
Our take: Googlebook is worth watching, but Indian buyers should wait for an official launch, local pricing and real-world reviews.
